Reproductive Cloning

Reproductive cloning is a process in which a new organism is created with an exact genetic copy of a living cell of another organism. It is done by splitting the genetic material and transferring it into an egg cell from which the nucleus has been removed. The egg cell is then stimulated to divide and develop into an organism with the same genetic code as the original organism that was used in the process. Reproductive cloning has been used extensively in animals, mainly for research, food production, and genetic modification. In humans, reproductive cloning is illegal, and ethical and safety considerations are still to be addressed before it can be used clinically.
