Childhood Epilepsy

Childhood epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects children and is characterized by the occurrence of recurrent seizures. Seizures are abnormal electrical discharges in the brain that can cause periods of involuntary uncontrolled muscle movements and behavioral changes. Childhood epilepsy is a major public health concern and has serious implications for the physical, social, psychological, and educational well-being of affected children and their family. Treatment of epilepsy in children is complex and involves a range of medications, lifestyle modifications, therapies, and surgery. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are essential for successful outcomes. Effective treatments have markedly improved the quality of life for many children living with epilepsy.
