Neuromuscular Disorders

Neuromuscular disorders are a group of diseases which affect the nerves and muscles that control movement. These diseases can range from mild to severe and can cause difficulty in walking, talking and other activities. Neuromuscular disorders can be caused by genetic mutations, environmental toxins, autoimmune disorders or even unidentified triggers. They can have a negative impact on quality of life for those affected, leading to movement disabilities and decreased independence. Treatment for neuromuscular disorders typically includes physical and occupational therapy, medications, and in some cases, surgery. With the proper care, many individuals can go on to live relatively normal lives.
