Primary Dentition

Primary dentition is the first set of teeth to emerge in a person's life. They are usually referred to as “baby teeth” and are vital for a child’s development, as proper nutrition, emotional development, and speech production all depend on them. Primary dentition typically emerges between the ages of 6-18 months and eventually falls out, giving way to the permanent dentition. It is important to keep primary dentition clean and to replace missing teeth as they can cause dental problems, misalignment, and the eruption of the permanent teeth to be compromised. Proper oral hygiene, such as brushing, flossing, and regular visits to the dentist, is extremely important to maintain a healthy primary dentition.
